New certificate Bfl s1class for structural chipboards
We have available a new structural chipboard with the fire reaction class Bfl s1 according to European standard EN 13501-1. So far in Spain were available boards Class B s2 d0, but lacking the certificate Bfl s1. This new classification allows use as flooring where it will be required.
The Spanish Building Code (CTE) provides that the construction materials used as floor coverings in special risk establishment must be Bfl s1, while used as wall coverings and ceilings must be Class B s1 d0. Storage rooms of houses and stores in all types of premises are establishment of special risk. For other areas, Efl classification is required for flooring and C s2 d0 for walls and ceilings.
In industrial establshment, the Spanish Fire Safety Regulations (RSCIEI) provides that the coatings or surface finishes of walls and ceilings should be class C s3 d0 and Cfl s1 for floor. In low risk establishments of types B and C, the class for walls and ceilings can be reduced to D s3 d0.
The chipboard is classified without testing, as Dfl s1 and D s2 d0, therefore to have products whose fire reaction grade has been improved is required to cover those cases where it is required.
